I’m a big believer in giving babies a taste of what Mom and Daddy are having. This puree is yummy and filling. It is also a fabulous way to sneak in some veggies like cauliflower.
I will suggest that you make this if you are making steak and potatoes for yourself and the rest of your family. Just cut off 1 oz of meat for your baby and cook it separately as you shouldn’t season what you serve for your baby as much as what you serve to yourself and family.
Steak and Potatoes:
1-2 ounces of grass fed organic steak (any cut is fine but I prefer the tenderloin)
1 teaspoon olive oil
2 teaspoon melted butter
1 small potato (peeled and cut into small cubes) *
1/2 - 1 cup warm organic milk (you can use formula if you want or breastmilk)
In a small skillet, heat butter and oil until hot. Place steak in skillet and cook under medium-high heat. Cook each side for about 2-3 minutes per side or until medium-well done. Remove steak from skillet and place in some Aluminum Foil. Seal in meat by creating a small pouch with the foil.
In your steamer, place your cut potato. Steam for about 15- 20 minutes until tender. Place cooked potatoes in blender along with 1/2 of your milk and 1 teaspoon of butter. Puree until smooth. Set aside in a small bowl.
Remove steak from foil. Cut steak into small cubes. Place cubes of steak into your blender along with the rest of your warm milk. Puree until meat is completely dissolved. Add back in some of your mashed potatoes (or all of it...depends how hungry your little one is or if you plan on substituting with pureed cauliflower). Puree again until well combined. Serve warm.
* You can substitute with a sweet potato or celeriac
