INGREDIENTS:
1 piece white sandwich bread, crusts removed
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon kosher salt
A few grinds of freshly ground black pepper
1 garlic clove zested
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1.5 pounds 85% lean ground beef
4 slices of sharp cheddar cheese
4 hamburger buns
Fixings (Optional): Lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, mustard, ketchup and mayo
DIRECTIONS:
In a medium bowl, smush the bread and milk together using the back of a fork until you get a chunky mush. Add garlic, Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper.
Add ground beef and using your fingers break the meat up. Mix everything together until combined (do not over mix). Divide beef into 4 equal balls. Then flatten the balls into patties. Tip: press your finger in the middle of each patty to create a shallow pothole, this will prevent the burgers from doming when cooked).
Grease the grill or cast iron skillet/griddle (if using a stove) and grill the burgers covered so the steam infuses burgers. Once browned, flip them over (about 2-3 minutes). Cook uncovered, add cheese slices to all burgers and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
Toast buns, spread your desired sauces on the buns and add patties to each bottom bun. Then layer remaining add-ons if desired. Serve immediately.
